You'll probably be familiar with the situation: an affiliate is upset and contacts you because they've been advertising one of your products and invested a lot of time and money into it. A prospect did click on the affiliate link in the email on their laptop, but decided to make the purchase on a different device later on.
Irrelevant for the buyer, not so good for the seller and very bad for the affiliate since they don't receive any commission as the purchase couldn't be assigned. Very annoying indeed!
The solution to all of this is multi-device tracking.
How is an affiliate ID assigned?
First of all, an affiliate advertises a product that is sold via Digistore24. When the contact clicks on the attached link, a browser page will open. Within a split second, the following now happens:
- The link leads to a page of the sales platform (in this case, Digistore24). Before the prospective customer even sees anything, a cookie is set in their browser. This contains the affiliate ID and the product ID.
- Once the cookie is set, the visitor is immediately redirected to the actual target page, in this case the product provider's landing page.
- Among other things, the visitor will find a form in which they can register their interest.
Let's assume that the visitor shows interest, signs up, maybe attends a webinar and finally gets a link to the sales page located on the sales platform. Very rarely will they make a purchase immediately! It is much more likely that they still want to think about the offer. The purchase then usually takes place at a later time via a different device. The problem, however, is that there is no cookie and therefore no affiliate ID in the other browser. As a result, there will be no commission and the affiliate who actually recruited the prospect will go away empty-handed.
To avoid this unpleasant situation, you can set up multi-device tracking with Quentn. In this use case, we will show you how to set up multi-device tracking with Quentn in combination with an Elementor landing page as a Digistore24 vendor. This way, you can make sure that product purchases are always assigned to the right affiliates.
Set up multi-device tracking
Step 1: Create contact field for the affiliate ID
- Go to Contacts -> Contact fields and create a new contact field for the type "Text".
- Give this a name, e.g. "Affiliate ID".
Step 2: Create Elementor form
- Drag the Form widget to the desired location on your desired Elementor landing page.
- Customise the form according to your needs.
- Add a contact field for the type "Hidden" and name it, e.g. "Affiliate ID".
- Connect Quentn by clicking on "Action after sending" and add Quentn.
- Assign the contact fields under the menu item "Quentn".
- Save and publish your landing page.
Step 3: Create a Digistore content link
This step is optional. The content link sets the cookie for the affiliate before the prospect is redirected to the actual page. Provided you follow step 4, this step here isn't required.
- In Digistore24 as a vendor, go to Account -> Content pages.
- For the Target URL, enter the URL of the landing page you just created where the form is located.
- Add the following at the end of the link: ?field_affiliate_ID=[AFFILIATE] (between the ? and the = comes the system name of the field you created in step 1)
Step 4: Campaign with email series linking to the product
- Create a campaign in Quentn.
- In the email, place a link to the product you're promoting.
- To do so, use the Digistore24 promotion link of the affiliate product.
- Again, customise the URL as follows: Remove "AFFILIATE" from the link and replace it with the placeholder of your contact field created in step 1 (e.g. {{contact.field_affiliate_ID}})
Tip: You can find the correct spelling of your placeholder by clicking on "Add placeholder" in the editor and finding the corresponding system name, copying it and then pasting it into the link.
