When you import contacts into Quentn, there’s a chance some of them already exist in your database — these are called duplicates. But don’t worry: Quentn handles them smartly.
What are duplicates?
Duplicates occur when a contact with the same email address is already present in your system — for example, because they previously signed up or were imported from another source.
What happens during import?
Quentn checks whether a contact with the same email address already exists. If it does, no new contact is created. Instead:
- New data fields (e.g. phone number, address, tags) are added or updated.
- The existing email status remains unchanged.
This means: If a contact has unsubscribed and appears again in a new import file, their status will not be changed back to “subscribed”. So you won’t accidentally contact them again — fully GDPR-compliant!
In a nutshell:
- Quentn detects duplicates by email address.
- New information is added.
- Email status is never overwritten, not even for unsubscribed contacts.
- No risk of accidentally violating data protection or consent rules.
