Double opt-in is mandatory for Quentn.
This is for the following reasons:
ESP's (email service providers) increasingly use spamtraps (bots) to check whether a sender adheres to the applicable rules of email marketing. These spamtrap entries camouflage themselves with inconspicuous names and e-mail addresses and can never be completely removed from the contact list. Over time, this leads to a veritable contamination of the contact list. When a certain percentage of spam traps is reached, the delivery rate of the sender continuously decreases. We have experienced this process with some clients in recent years and can only strongly advise against it.
Another problem: Some (real) users use false or overflow email addresses for registration, because they assume that they never have to confirm their email address to get to the next page. This often prevents the sender from receiving the user's real contact details. We therefore recommend pointing out directly on the thank you page of the form that the email address needs to be confirmed.
What can be done?
Are they real people?
First of all, it is important to check whether registrants are actually people. Quentn does its utmost to prevent spam registrations by automatically checking IP and email addresses against spam databases. Unfortunately, this is never sufficient.
1. use the Facebook button (or offer it as an alternative to the form)
When using the Facebook button for registration, you have the option of setting the contact directly to "Confirmed" (spamtraps do not have a Facebook account). However, please make sure here that you have the customer's consent. More about this here.
2. purchases
You can also confirm verified purchases directly if you have the customer's consent. (e.g. in the settings of the Digistore24 element).
Double opt-in rate (DOI)
Most of our customers have a double opt-in rate of over 90%. If you also take into account that this includes some registrations by bots, typing errors, wrong email addresses, etc., the actual double opt-in rate is actually even higher. We therefore recommend that you optimise your double opt-in process. E.g. you could offer your registrants a gift in the form of a video, e-book, etc. and make it clear that delivery will only take place once the DOI has been completed.
Email status:
You can only email contacts with the following email statuses:
- Confirmed (only contacts with a successful double opt-in will receive this status).
- Confirmed (Imported)
- Confirmed (Manual)
