With the date timer, you can determine on which date and at what time your emails should be sent. You can choose whether to react to a fixed date, to a date transferred from a contact field or to a birthday.
Fixed date
Would you like to send an e-mail at a specific time on a specific day (e.g. for a particular celebration, an anniversary, Christmas...)? Then select the fixed date.
The notice “Your timezone is Europe/Paris. This can be changed in the user settings” applies to you and the users you created.
If one of your employees is in a different timezone and working on the campaign, they’ll know which time is actually meant.
Example: Christmas campaign
For a Christmas campaign, all contacts who enter the sequence during the year can wait for the timer with the setting 24.12./ 12:00. The mail will be sent at exactly this time to all contacts who are on the element by then.
Behavior when the date is exceeded
Of course, you can also determine what should happen to the contacts after the date has expired:
If you set "Stop", no more emails will be sent to new contacts after the date has passed. This makes sense if you send event-related emails, the event is over and people still end up in the campaign.
If you set "Next", new contacts will also go to the next element after the date has passed.
Continue until
Here you can enter a second date. Once the fixed date (as the target date) is reached, contacts will continue to be allowed through until this second date is reached – only then will the contacts stop.
Date from contact field
You can also react to dates from contact fields - before or after. To do this, use the up or down arrow keys to select how much earlier or later you want to react.
Please note: You can only react earlier or later, but not in combination.
Example: React earlier
Let's say the contact has registered for a webinar. The date and time are transferred to Quentn in the contact field. You can now set a reminder email to be sent to the contact one hour before the webinar starts, for example.
If you only have a specific date in the contact field, but no time, Quentn will assume 0:00.
Example: Respond later
However, you can also react after the date and send further information about the webinar, for example.
Date from a contact field without a time
For example, with a birthday, you usually only have the date, not a specific time. If you send based only on the date, the email will be sent exactly at 12:00 AM.
If you don’t want that because, for example, you’d rather send the email at 9:00 AM, you need to enter +9.
Please keep the timezone in mind here. If you are in the Europe/Paris timezone, the configured time will be applied accordingly. However, if your contact is in a different timezone — the U.S., China, or anywhere else — they may receive the email too early or too late, depending on their local time.
That’s why you should define your timezone and keep your target audience in mind.
If you have an international audience across different timezones, you may need to create multiple campaigns, for example, one for the U.S., one for China, and one for DACH, so all contacts receive the email at the right time.
You can avoid this by keeping Europe/Paris and simply entering +12. This way, everyone receives the email on the correct day, just at whatever time it happens to be in their timezone.
Date of birth
You can also respond to birthdays, provided the date has been entered. The contact has entered their birthday and you would like to congratulate them. In this case, please check the "Ignore year" box (the contact's year of birth is in the past, but you may have wanted to wish them a happy birthday this year).
Behavior when the date is exceeded
If the specified date has already passed, contacts are either stopped or forwarded directly.
Behavior if the field is empty
If the contact field is empty, contacts are either stopped or forwarded directly.
Subsequent changes to the date timer
If you make changes to a date timer after publishing the campaign, you can apply the change to all contacts who are already on the timer.
Publish the campaign again. A pop-up will appear where you can click on "Apply new settings". As soon as the campaign has been republished, the changes will also apply to the contacts who are already on the element.
