To guarantee a secure delivery rate, Quentn always automatically authenticates your emails with DKIM and also ensures that your emails pass SPF checks.
Email authentication - what does this actually mean?
Individual Internet Service Providers (ISPs) take extensive precautions to protect their networks from spam.
If the sender address was sent by a Freemailer (such as gmail, yahoo, web.de, gmx etc...), the provider knows that Gmail & co. certainly did not send this email themselves and will issue warnings to the recipient, or immediately label this email as spam.
This process is called email authentication: ISPs can determine whether the incoming email is really from the sender named in the email.
For this purpose, there are two proven procedures: DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) and the Sender Policy Framework (SPF).
DomainKeys is based on asymmetric encryption. A digital signature is added to the header of the emails, which is assigned to your domain and is used for all outgoing emails. The receiving server then queries the official key, which is available in the Domain Name System (DNS) of the domain.
The SPF (Sender Policy Framework) is another spam protection method used for sender authentication. Additional information (detailed information about the sending mail servers) is stored in the DNS records of a domain in the form of SPF records. The receiving email server can use the SPF record of the domain to check whether the received emails are from an authorised email server or not. In the latter case, the email can be identified via the SPF spam protection and declared as spam.
The benefits of Quentn's standard authentication
All emails are always protected with Quentn's standard authentication. This has several benefits for you:
- Your emails have DKIM and SPF authentication.
- You don't have to worry about anything or perform any advanced DNS settings on your shipping domain.
It isn't possible to turn off Quentn's standard authentication. However, you can choose to set up your own authentication in addition to Quentn's. This can provide you with additional advantages when sending emails.
Your own domain verification
If you are the owner of your own domain, you have the opportunity to set up your own DKIM and SPF verification. This way, you allow Quentn to use your domain information in the email header. This improves the delivery rate of your emails and helps you to look more professional.
To achieve this, you need to make some changes to the DNS settings of your domain. It might be worth consulting your trusted technician for this.
Benefits of your own domain verification
- Quentn's authentication information ("sent via m-2.eu-1.quentn.com") disappears for the recipient and is replaced with your domain name. (This is not true for all email websites and programs, but certainly for most).
- The probability of your emails ending up in the recipient's advertising or spam folder is reduced.
Requirements for your own domain verification
If you fulfill all of the below criteria, we recommend that you verify your domain with Quentn:
- You own your own domain (e.g. "Example.de").
- You already have an email address for your own domain (e.g. John.smith@example.de).
- You (or a trusted technician) are able to carry out a few DNS settings on your domain.
